 Invisible Light/Luz Invisível

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Reception 7:00pm - 10:00pm | Performance 8:00pm

CAS - Casa de Artes Sustentáveis, Rua Democrata 21, Dois de Julho, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil

Invisible Light is an immersive exhibition of new work by Japanese artist Mika Aono and American artists Tobias Tovera and Denise Susanne Townsend whose practices delve into the realm of process in relationship to natural phenomena exploring the alchemical conversion of materiality dancing in dialogue with the elements of nature. While each artist works from a different reference and with different materials, their images, objects, and performances result from similar themes of transformation, ephemera, nature’s infinite beauty and force of energy.

This exhibition includes some paintings, sculptures and installations that were inspired by collaborations with Salvador Prefeitura Elementary School and classes taught by the artists titled Creativity, Consciousness and Connection: Exploring the Infinite Possibilities of Movement, Meditation and the Arts. Each class utilized artistic processes in order to cultivate connections to the natural and imaginal worlds examining relationships among all beings, past and present, with our hope for a harmonious future.

Invisible Light is thematic and speaks directly to the metaphysical in art and the metaphoric connection between energy and transformation, chaos and order, the relationship between these forms and how they relate to our global consciousness. The essence and beauty of Aono, Tovera and Townsend’s work is that we can observe new zones of possibility and immediacy using processes that explore alchemy, close observations of our surroundings and our embodied nature.
